I’m not sure if it was after reading Tall Tales from the Mekong Delta, but stories with tall tales can be alarming…try it for yourself. Look it up for yourself, find yourself a copy and prepare to be eerily impressed. (And don’t say I didn’t warn you!)

Writing Prompt # 91

Sometimes there’s this one song that keeps playing on and on in your head. And sometimes it’s the things that it causes you to remember, more than anythings else to be stuck in that almost nostalgic state of regret that fuels everything else.

Or whether it’s fear, and angst or something else entirely, the song, Some Nights by the pop group Fun, is one of those things that’s been on constant replay in my head. Here I supply the shots, you, your mind the music and let the Muse take you away.

W.P. # 91    These are the friends I had.

Writing Prompt # 90

It’s not always about where you’ll end up, but sometimes it’s about how you begin. In the process of writing it’s about how you think, and feel, and see. Not to mention touch and taste. Yes, everything begins, now. Right here. With you, you see, you’re on an island.

W.P. # 90.    Write about an island.

Soon we’ll all be going centennial! No, I’m kidding – the prompts are only half-way there. But I like movies like Bicentennial Man and Up. I mean there are so much aging products out there to make you think that something needs to be fixed or you need to take better care of yourself. But it shouldn’t only be about youth.

Life is a journey that must be lived in the present, at whatever stage of it you are in. I remember sitting down with my grandparents when I was younger and being told stories, and hearing hymns.

They were down to earth people who didn’t seem to let anything bother them. Not a baby crying in a crib, a disobedient child or the world outside their door. They smiled, made friends with everyone and enjoyed eating together, even as they made it into their seventies. Watching them I would often think here is the good life, here is home.

It’s funny the things we pick up from our parents, besides the other things that we learn on our own. For me there have been two particular things, a love of almond nuts and a partiality to roses. Even though as a child I also enjoyed picking hibiscuses and tearing them apart. All in the name of science, of course, because our teachers expected us to draw and label the various parts of a flower.

Anyway think about your own childhood experiences or something that happened to you as an adult and like always, do the prompt. Only this time:
